This project exists because a stranger on the internet was not only clever enough to code a treemap algorithm in JavaScript, but generous enough to make it freely available. Many thanks to Clément Bataille for sharing his brilliance.
One Minute Guides, the Cleveland Museum of Art’s experimental collaboration with Google Arts & Culture, provided visual inspiration for this project. The font pairing of DM Sans and Newsreader come from Google; the dynamic, irregular polygons come from chance.
Speaking of Google, the site’s color palette comes from Material Design.
Finally, this project was inspired by Henri Matisse’s Cut-Outs, which he described as “drawing with scissors,” and in particular his Painted paper sample reference set recently displayed at MoMA.
